TINAYU ARTECH Studio (TIANYU ARTLIMITED) was co-founded by Hu Yilin (Ph.D. in Philosophy, former Associate Professor in the Department of History of Science at Tsinghua University) and Shen Cong (young artist, curator, graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts), located in the art district of Fo Tan, Hong Kong.

Our core concept is "With Technology", dedicated to exploring new expressions at the intersection of art and technology, culture and technology, humanity and technology. We believe the advent of the information age is reshaping the meaning of "technology" itself: technology is no longer just a cold tool, nor should it merely be listed alongside "science", but rather, it will return to an integrated pathway of "craftsmanship".

Faced with the developments of frontier technologies like artificial intelligence, we question the old paradigm of "efficiency and production only" since the industrial age. We are concerned with how technology shapes human life, how culture absorbs the vocabulary of technology, and how art can once again become a tool for public expression.

19 minutes and 08 seconds, 50 frames per second, 4K high-definition video (3840x2160), aspect ratio

16:9, color, stereo, LED screen installation (6000*770*3500mm)

AGI images

The "Song of the Distant Sun" is a completely AI-generated four-chapter video work, documenting the historical symbols of the sun culture and the technological vision of controllable nuclear fusion, presenting different practices of "creating sunlight" across time and space. Many of the images used in the work stem from children's imaginations about "what kind of future fusion will bring us," envisioning a future society after nuclear fusion is realized—will trees still need to photosynthesize? Can time be re-planned? These innocent notions intertwine with scientific devices and historical imagery, generating a guide to the use of science and technology aimed at the future. The vision of an energy utopia and technological reflection both exist within this video shaped by algorithms. When infinite energy becomes a reality and the human world returns to an ideal state centered on humanity, what entirely new solar chronicle will we create with controllable nuclear fusion?

“The Song of the Distant Sun” is a four-chapter visual work entirely generated by artificial intelligence, documenting the historical symbols of sun culture and the technological vision of controllable nuclear fusion, presenting various “sun-making” practices that transcend time and space. Many of the images used in the work stem from children's imaginations of “what kind of future fusion will bring us,” envisioning a future society after nuclear fusion is realized—will trees still need to photosynthesize? Can time be re-planned? These innocent concepts intertwine with scientific devices and historical imagery, generating a guide to the use of science and technology for the future. The vision of an energy utopia and technological reflection exist within this algorithmically shaped visual work; when infinite energy becomes a reality, and the human world returns to an ideal, human-centered state, what kind of brand new chronicle of the sun will we write with controllable nuclear fusion?

Everything begins with a confusion of a technological era: What is a human?

This ancient question has been repeatedly invoked in the contexts of mythology, science, art, and technology. Born in an era of explosion in artificial intelligence and life sciences technology, the imagination of 'what will humanity become' no longer has a standard answer. Humanoid robots, digital avatars, virtual hosts, artificial organs, genetic editing... are continuously reshaping our understanding of 'what is a human' and 'what should a human look like'. 'Human form' is no longer a result of natural evolution but a composite product generated by the collaboration of technology, imagery, algorithms, and desire.

I attempt to raise questions through this work - in an era where the imagination of 'human' is being reconstructed by technology, can we still confirm the future of the humanoid? What I care about is not 'what can we do with technology', but 'what has technology turned us into'. 'Studies of Human Form' is an experimental video centered around 'the body', divided into five chapters: the Sacred, Rationality, Technology, Dimensions, and Intelligence.

These five understandings of 'human' come from different systems such as mythology, philosophy, science, and technology, overlapping, intertwining, and conflicting, sometimes even unable to engage in dialogue. I hope to recombine these torn semantic puzzles through this work and try to outline a human genealogy that transcends contexts and scales.

If we take a slice of life in the time dimension and view the living entities on this cross-section as a type of sculpture, then the biological principle of "structure determines function" is the aesthetic principle of life sculpture: bacteriophages can invade and disintegrate bacteria from within, the structure of the heart is to pump blood for the human body, and the structure of proteins hints at different life functions on a more microscopic level… The orderly operation of all this composes a grand epic of life across scales, continuing the life landscape of Earth for billions of years. The artist has visualized a set of life structures with aesthetic beauty, elaborating on the life aesthetics contained in the underlying logic of life.

Biological Memory

2024

190x300x80cm

Memory metal, stainless steel, temperature control device

HuaXi Bio Collection

Since the dawn of civilization, humanity has resisted the dissolution of the physical body by transferring memory to immortal objects. From murals, stone carvings, and books to the internet, we hope to leave behind enduring information in unchanging materials. Biological memory is a form of elastic storage; our ancestors stored 'future-oriented memories' in DNA, allowing each newborn individual to survive the various changes of the future with adaptive physical traits. Therefore, the possibilities of life facing the future exist inherently within the memories of the past.

The work interprets new forms through the combination of sculpture and new materials, showcasing the biological aesthetics manifested in the underlying logic of life at the molecular level. Through memory metal materials, life sculptures are able to couple with the dynamic concept of protein 'deformation and renaturation'

and interact with the audience through temperature changes.

Salon | Humanity, Intelligence, and the Flesh:
Can We Still Create Art in the Age of AI?

This salon's core topic is "Can We Still Create Art in the Age of AI?" In an era of image saturation and algorithm homogenization, creators are no longer isolated individuals but rather "nodes in a decentralized system"; works are no longer just objects but processes that interact with technology and social structures. This salon presents a multidimensional landscape of AI art from the perspectives of philosophy, education, creative practice, and institutional operations. AI is no longer a mysterious technology but a reality that every artist must confront and respond to.

Hu Yilin × Xia Kejun × Wei Ying: Aesthetic Variations of Biotechnology

In an era where AI, gene editing, and synthetic biology are continuously advancing, “life” is becoming an object that can be calculated, manipulated, synthesized, and encoded. Are we experiencing a profound mutation in our perception of order? In the face of the reality of “designed life,” do art and philosophy also need to redefine their own positions? The forum invites three experts spanning the fields of techno-philosophy, art criticism, and tech art curation to discuss the artistic revolution provoked by life technologies.
