"Being and Time"
"Being and Time" is the representative work of German philosopher Martin Heidegger and is regarded as a milestone in 20th-century philosophy. In the book, Heidegger introduces the concept of "Dasein" (being-there), and through the analysis of the structure of human existence—temporality, anxiety, death, and everydayness—reemphasizes the old and forgotten question of "What is being?" This reading group will guide everyone into this profound and enlightening work, exploring core themes such as "The meaning of being," "The relationship between time and existence," and "The true self versus inauthentic existence," attempting to understand how Heidegger opens a new chapter in phenomenology and existentialism.
It will be launched for the first time at the Unfinished Bookstore in Chinatown, Singapore, on February 16, 2025. This reading group is led by Hu Yilin, founder of Tian and ARTECH, using a method of detailed reading and discussion, and will continue to update past meeting notes.
